Northeast Monsoon Update: The Deep depression that crossed near Pondicherry during the day started moving along the Peninsular India and now lies around South Karnataka and is expected to possibly surface once again in Arabian Sea. There is a possibility that this could once again intensify and move as a marginal Tropical disturbance towards the Gulf of Aden coast in what could become a third in less than a month to reach Yemen / Horn of Africa.
With the disturbance now over the West Coast parts of Kerala & Coastal Karnataka could get some rains today with good rains expected around the North Kerala region. Wayanad & adjoining Nilgiris districts of Tamil Nadu could see one or two places getting heavy rains.
Similarly parts of Coastal AP & Rayalseema region would benefit from the wind convergence thereby getting rains. This could be very pronounced around the Ongole / Anatapur latitude.
As the disturbance moves further West the winds have started to become Easterlies once again for North Coastal Tamil Nadu which could provide for some rainfall opportunities. Today & tomorrow could see isolated rainfall opportunities for North Coastal TN & adjoining South Coastal Andhra Pradesh. Today could see spells of rains around the Nellore region in Andhra Pradesh while in Tamil Nadu the areas between Chennai & Pondicherry could see some spells of rains.
Chennai Weather Update: Partly cloudy skies with on and off spells of rains expected today. Towards the afternoon one or two heavy spells might happen in a few areas along the coast. Day time temperature is unlikely to exceed 30°C providing a near perfect Northeast Monsoon day.
