Yesterday saw Chennai city receive spells of rains at many places with few places in the Western suburbs receiving about 4 different spells of rains. The COMK Weather Station in Anna Nagar recorded 35 mm rains till 5:00 AM in the morning while places like Madhavaram, Puzhal, Poonamallee & Chembarambakkam also received good rains through the day.
The Evolving Depression in Bay of Bengal, currently lying about 650 kms to the Southeast of Chennai is expected to pick up intensity as it continues its movement towards the coast of Tamil Nadu. Numerical Models suggest the Depression in Bay of Bengal could cross the coast of Tamil Nadu sometime tomorrow. The rains are expected to peak as the disturbance moves closer to the coast.
Today we could see spells of heavy rains in many parts of Coastal Tamil Nadu and parts of South Coastal Andhra Pradesh right through the day. From late afternoon the rains are expected to intensify into sustained spells of rains with heavy to very heavy spells in between. The coastal stretch between Nellore & Nagapattinam is expected to receive heavy spells of rains from later in the evening right through the night as we get into tomorrow we could see the rains peak.
Heavy Rainfall Alert: The Coastal Belt between Nellore & Nagapattinam will see spells of rains right through the day with one or two heavy spells in between, from evening we could see sustained spells of rains with more heavy spells of rains as the night sets in.
Chennai Weather Update: Rains from early in the morning at many parts of the city, wide spread and increased intensity increases as the day progresses. Later in the evening onwards heavy spells of rains possible with sustained rains right through the night.
