In an indication to the upcoming Northeast Monsoon days, many areas of South & Central Tamil Nadu has received overnight rains with isolated places in North Tamil Nadu receiving spells of rains as well. Parts of Chennai city receiving early morning spells of passing showers. Hindustan University in OMR had received 4 mm rains from midnight spells.
Northeast Monsoon is known for its midnight & early morning rains, as a curtain raiser the next day or two could see Northeast Monsoon type weather prevail over many parts of the state though the onset of Monsoon is still not happened yet.
Thanks to the Upper Air Circulation currently off Sri Lanka to the SW of the Indian Subcontinent many parts of South Tamil Nadu could continue to receive good rains today as well. Thanks to the Easterly Moisture incursion coastal Tamil Nadu from Marakkanam till Thoothukudi all the way stand a chance to receive spell or two of rains today with the rains once again peaking possibly later in the night.
In South TN the districts of Thootukudi, Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Virudhunagar, Ramanathapuram and parts of Madurai as well could see spells of heavy rains while in the North coastal region Nagapattinam, Pondicherry areas could see a spell or two of rains. There is a chance of rains for the interiors as well around Erode / Salem / Tiruppur region
