With three weeks of February just about behind us it is time to look forward to the gradual sneaking in of Summer over Peninsular India. Yesterday most parts of Kerala saw temperaturees notch up a degree or two compared to the past few days while the IMD observatories at places like Palayamkottai, Kanyakumari, Pamban & Karur Paramathi recorded 2 / 3 degrees above normal maximum temperatures.
Weather models indicate similar conditions to continue today & tomorrow before the a bit of modulation by the slighlty more moist winds from the Bay may keep a check on the day time maximum temperatures. Models indicate most parts of West Interior Tamil Nadu & a few places in South TN could see maximum temperatures stay 2 / 3 degrees above normal for today & tomorrow while most of TN may see marginally higher than normal temperatures for the same period.
With day time temperatures increasing slowly we can also look forward to the arrival of Veppa Salanam Rains. Though it is not yet the season for Mango Showers or Coffee showers weather charts do indicate a bit of instability in the lower atmospheric winds which along with the day time convective heating is likely to trigger Veppasalanam thunderstorms over a few places along the Western Ghats, particularly in South TN & adjoining areas of South Kerala.
