Chennai Weather finally relents. After 7 continuous days of 40°+ temperatures Chennai finally saw 38.9° yesterday. After almost 10 days no place in Tamil Nadu registered more than 40°C anywhere.
While it is too early to call the heat wave as gone, the chances of Chennai having a continuous run of 40° days this July is less. While the monsoon has still not fully recovered from break conditions with West Coast receiving only one day of extremely heavy rainfall in the Konkan region this week there is decent moisture migration from the west coast across Peninsular India which would possibly help the temperature under check.
Tamil Nadu Weather Update: Some areas of North Tamil Nadu in the areas of Vellore, Krishnagiri & Dharmapuri could possibly receive isolated thunderstorms towards evening. One or two places near Vellore / Gudiyatham could possibly get heavy spells at times. Adjoining areas of Karnataka & South AP could also see isolated thunderstorms. The stretch between Mahabalipuram to Pondicherry stand very good chance of rains from East Moving Thunderstorms.
Chennai Weather Update: Today could see day time temperatures of around 38°C with sea breeze setting in around 2 PM. Strong sea breeze is expected to provide a comfortable evening and possible thunderstorm opportunities over a few areas of Chennai. The rains possibly could be more prevalent in South suburbs and areas South of Tambaram.
