Last evening many places in Chennai saw spells of rains from thunderstorms that formed in interior North Tamil Nadu / South AP as they moved over the city from West to East. After 3 / 4 days of near misses for #Chennai the spells of rains did not miss the city last evening.
Chennai Weather Update: Today could be a warm day again with temperatures of around 37⁰C for Chennai but crucially with the Monsoon getting towards its first break of the season the Westerlies will show lesser impact thereby bringing possibly an early sea breeze. This early sea breeze is expected to trigger some afternoon / evening thunderstorms while the thunderstorms from the interior places will start move towards Chennai providing another opportunity of rains. The #rains could possibly turn out better for the Southern areas of Chennai and southern suburbs.
Additionally the trough is dipping slightly to the North of Chennai providing us with the instability needed to aid the convective trigger. The break in monsoon period is normally the best time for “Veppa Salanam” rains over the rain shadow regions of Tamil Nadu. North interior Tamil Nadu could potentially see another rainy day with today possibly more places in the districts of #Kanchipuram, #Tiruvallur along with #Chennai getting some decent spells of rains. The districts of #Vellore, #Tiruvannamalai, #Krishnagiri #Dharmapuri & #Villupuram could see isolated places receive thunderstorms, the places along the coast in these districts will receive rains. Adjoining places in South AP and South Karnataka could also potentially receive some instability induced thunderstorms.
