While Northeast Monsoon Season for statistical purposes runs between October 1st to December 31st the actual season ends depends on how wind patterns evolve and the overall rains over the East Coast of India all the way from Central AP to South TN. Many a year it has ended even before the calendar year ends while in some cases it has extended almost till Pongal.
IMD has announced Northeast Monsoon is likely to cease from the Indian Sub Continent with effect from 10th January. With Northerly winds dominating the landscape of Coastal Tamil Nadu and overall dry atmospheric conditions prevailing it is indeed time to draw curtains on Northeast Monsoon 2019, a season which turned upside down many a premise held not only by weather bloggers but also professional meteorologists.
Looking at the wind chart it appears until Pongal possibly no major spell of rains are likely over Tamil Nadu which could be a blessing for the farmers who get ready for their harvest around Thai Pongal. While winter conditions are likely to pick up gradually things will be near normal on the minimum temperature front for the next day or two.
