Thanks to the disturbances in Arabian Sea & Bay of Bengal over the last one week Chennai had forgotten what Kathiri was. Moderate day time temperature and pleasant night temperatures meant we had almost thought summer was over for us. With now the effect of these disturbances pretty much negligible it is back to normal for the “Hot, Hotter & Hottest seasons Chennai”
While the disturbances did provide some welcome respite from high temperatures and gave a lot of rains to most places of Tamil Nadu, Poonamallee about 20 kms away from Chennai got 35 mm rains yesterday evening, while Chennai has on and off showers it has slowly but steadily changed the wind pattern over Peninsular India from Easterlies to Westerlies. Between now and the advent of Northeast Monsoon in late October we will be having surface level westerlies.
The next two months could see the surface level day time temperature soar high and could clock 40 C on many days. The days would be uncomfortable as the strength of westerlies improve coinciding with the setting of Southwest Monsoon over Peninsular India the sea breeze starts setting late aggravating the comfort factor making Chennai possibly one of the most uncomfortable metros to stay during late June & early July.
In the immediate it is going to be summer in Chennai from this week with a couple of 100F between Wednesday & Sunday this week. Kathiri is going to show its true face from Wednesday. Take Care Chennai. Today could be a partly cloudy day with temperatures around 34 / 35C with the temperature increasing from tomorrow.
In other news Southwest Monsoon has set over Andaman and is expected to set over Peninsular India around May 30th.
