As expected many parts of Chennai received rains last evening with light rains continuing through the night in on and off spells. So what’s in store today?
The expected upper level trough which was to have played a key role in the rains for Chennai last time around is predicted to pass close to Chennai today though unlike last time around the moisture levels are lower hence the potential for rains is also lesser.
Additionally there is some bit of lower level easterly moisture incursion right through the day creating a potentially cloudy day with isolated showers possibly.
There is a marginal upper air circulation over South Tamil Nadu which potentially is going to provide some moisture incursion as well, the impact of this on Chennai could be limited, providing rainfall opportunities for interior places of Tamil Nadu once again. Places near Vellore could have heavy spells of rains along with places near the Western Ghats & Kanyakumari District.
