After days of hide and seek many parts of Chennai received heavy rains today morning. Today saw places like Tharamani, Meenambakkam, and coastal areas like Besant Nagar receive rains from a cloud burst type situation. Strangely areas North & West of Koyambedu did not receive any major spell of rains. So what are the prospects of Chennai in the days to come?
The rains that happened today morning was driven by the UAC embedded in a Low Pressure trough over South Bay. This was pushing moisture into the Eastern Coast thereby creating favorable conditions for rains early in the morning. It could have been a case of interaction with upper level westerlies that possibly amplified the moisture effect and created this sudden intense burst of rains over South Chennai. It is pretty much unlikely the same set of events would happen once again. But nevertheless conditions do exist for chances of rains for Chennai & Coastal North Tamil Nadu tomorrow morning. In all probability the rains would happen early morning around day break. Lets hope the North Chennai areas get lucky and all of get some rains tomorrow morning.
