Last couple of days as expected Chennai & most parts of Tamil Nadu took a break from rains. Yesterday Chennai saw a very comfortable 35.4°C day time temperature thanks to the high level cloud cover that persisted the whole day
As expected the long rainy spell for Chennai pretty much wound up last evening with isolated drizzles in areas to the North Chennai like Madhavaram, Red Hills, Manali etc. Most of North Tamil Nadu remained dry and hot through the day.
The string of rainy days that blessed Chennai Weather over the last week or so created squally conditions last evening over Western & Northern suburbs with few areas seeing uprooted trees & heavy spells of sharp showers for about 15 – 20 minutes.
In what is a welcome development for Chennai Weather, the last few days have seen regular rains along North Tamil Nadu providing good rainfall to many places in Tiruvallur District improving the water table much needed for the lakes around Chennai.
Chennai and surrounding areas received widespread rains last evening as well with areas in South Chennai receiving very heavy rains. Anna University received about 30 mm rains last evening.
Heavy rains lashed North Coastal Tamil Nadu in particular the places surrounding Chennai as expected. Places like Uthiramerur has got close to 70 mm rains with some late night rains adding to the evening spell of rains. Tiruvallur got about 50 mm of rains during the evening thunderstorms.
A few areas North of Chennai and areas around Poonamallee saw rains last evening while the city did not receive much except passing drizzle in one or two places
A few areas around Tambaram and south of Tambaram received some spell of rains last night, while to the North areas around Madhavaram received passing showers in the evening.
Many areas of Chennai received few spells of rains with the IMD Automatic Weather Station recording 18mm rains from these spells. It is third successive rainy day for Chennai.
In a rare event over recent days many areas of Chennai received widespread rains yesterday evening for the second continuous day. As expected the heaviest rains happened in the Southern Suburbs.
